Kona Winds and Big Surf for Maui (Sunday)

There is a lot happening in Hawaii this weekend. As they say how sweet it is. The Hawaii Warriors football team took on Washington State at Aloha Stadium with 44 seconds left Colt Brennan threw a 5 yard touchdown pass to Ryan Mullen to win the game 35-28. The Warriors enter this game with a winning record of 12 straight games. This win over Washington hopefully will give the Warriors a spot in the sugar Bowl. Hawaii fans all over the state are celebrating over the win.
On the other side of the island of Oahu was the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing at Sunset Beach. Surf was in the 15 to 20ft range and scary according to most of the contestants. One of the stands out heats was with newly crown Mick Fanning a Aussie who just won the prestigious WCT Pro Tour. Mick was surfing against three other contestants. Maui Boy and big wave charger Ian Walsh dominate the heat tearing up set waves and getting completely barrled on a set wave. He went on to win his heat paying back Mick for eliminating Ian in the Haleiwa contest. They both advanced to round 32.
On Maui the north shore was 15 to 20 ft surf with offshore winds. It was just a little too big for me. I love to do yard work when it gets this big. Monday is looking like it’s going to get big and the right wind direction. Micah my partner and his buddies are looking at towing the outer reefs. With Jet Ski’s they pull each other into giant waves and get the rides of there live. I will leave the towing of mountains to the younger guys.
