Maui heavy rains, winds and amazing stories.
The last couple of days have been pounding with rain, wind and heavy surf. Last night it rain so hard that up in Kula Maui there are reports of at least six homes being swept away. Homes were undermined and cars sent flowing down the mountain. In Kihei a lifeguard tower was pulled into the ocean by pounding surf. Kihei Maui was not any where as big as the northshore of Maui. Power was knocked out in Kihei and guest at Four Seasons and other Wailea Maui hotels enjoyed candle light dinners because they had no choice.
Power was knock out all over the island on Maui. Yesterday working in the Coldwell Banker office in Paia we were watching the streets over flow on to the sidewalks. The tourist were not to be disappointed, a couple just had there bathing suits on and were enjoying a walk through town in pouring rains. I think they were really having a great time.
The surf was so Hugh on the northshore of Maui. I haven’t seen it that big in years. Hookipa and Maliko bay on the north shore was massive. Here is my favorite story from the streets. The other day Laird Hamilton and Brett Lickel were out towing Outer Baldwin Beach in 80 to 100 ft surf. Give me a break no one goes out in 80 ft surf. So Laird was towed into an 80ft wave and Laird ate it. Brett went in with the Jet Ski to get laird and pick him up. As they were trying to get the heck out of there. There was another 80 ft set behind them they punched it but could not out run the massive set. They were over powered by this humongous set and pounded. When they came up Bret had his leg shredded open and was bleeding really hard. So Laird took off his wetsuit and tied a tunicate so Bret would not bleed to death. So then laird swam off to find his jet ski. So he finds his jet ski and grabs Brett and heads back to shore saving Brett. Laird lands his jet ski naked on the beach and pulls Bret on to the beach and gets him to the hospital and ends an amazing rescue. Is this guy superman, any other mortal would have drown and that would be the end of it.
So today the skies are still looking like they are not done pounding rain. Micah my partner is out surfing 6 to 10 ft Hookipa and the storm is not done yet. Next you will hear the Pineapple Express bring all this rain to the west coast. So heavy rain, winds and Hugh surf, this does not slow down our Maui visitors. We are experiencing a flood of Canadians looking for great buys with their dollar so strong. Look for a busy winter in Maui Real Estate.
